Default Clean and professional or busy albeit artistic?

I'm trying to get a handle on what people want to see when it comes to design. Though I am occasionally stunned by magnificent design works, in general I prefer the minimalistic look with just a handful of colours, straight lines and attention to fine details.

Anyone else like me or am I really the odd one out here? I talk to people and they seem to see things in design that I just don't - perhaps I should stick to coding eh?

Im all for loud colors and in your face graphics if its needed for instance advertising a new feature or product.
If im developing an infomation site I prefer quite a basic aproach, logo and menu at the top text with a few images below, advantages are, making it easy to read and follow not being drawn away by distracting colors or advertisments and making cross browser compatable as much as possible

'Web 2.0 Style' appeals to me. I know that it's not a type of website design style but it's sums up what I like. Websites like Digg.com are great. The use of CSS to give a clean, fast loading appearance is great, the number of images used is limited while it still it looks sharp and impressive.

The key of good design is no longer Photoshop but XHTML and CSS!

If you're a designer yourself check out these excellent web 2.0 type designs;

The design is there to serve a porpose and make a message come through.

So the best type of design depends strongly of the idea behind the website.

Usually, you use a scheme of 2-3 colors and put the life with pictures. That is general in design.

Now the color scheme and how bussy the layout will be will trigger different emotional reactions. You choose cold colors and polished style for stores, blogs and forums in general, or anything where the "content" is the most important ingredient. You use strong layouts and crazier color scheme for anything where the addrenaline runs high, like videogames or teen sites. You use pastels for anything "pure", like babies, and you use pastels with splashes of color for children spaces.
