How difficult is it build a basic website?

I've created some before in some very basic software (cannot remember the name off the top of my head), it was easy to use as it was 'what you see if what you get', and so was complicated in that sense, but it did take a very long time to create anything.

My mum runs a private health care company caring for the elderly and disabled, and she wants a basic website creating. The website needs a main page, then say 4/5 tabs across the top taking the user to other informational pages. Such as 'about us' 'services offered', 'rates', 'job opportunities' and 'contact us'. So just a basic 5 page website in essence.

Now when i look around at web design companies they want £500+VAT to create something like this, so how easy would it be for me to create it, having had no prior experience to proper webpage design?

You will need a HTML editor like Dreamweaver.

Then the easiest way is to nab a free template from http://www.oswd.org/ and customise it.

It isnt easy as such but it is learnable.

I have a Macromedia studio package on my laptop that has Dreamweaver MX on, would i be best to find an online tutorial or something similar? I know these things take time but i dont mind spending my spare time learning new things such as this, it all adds to what i can do i guess.

Yeah tutorials are available online.

Best bet is open one of those templates in Dreamweaver and have a play.

I think i'll download a template then and have a play in dreamweaver.

It only needs to be a very basic website with text and one/two pictures, and an email address link, thats about it really.

I use Visual Studio every day, and the interface is very similar, plus (like dreamweaver) i can use the asp web controls, instead of the html form controls. so when i import into studio its all there for me.

Hey, in response to your question, it's not that hard, it just takes a little bit of time to memorize the tags. Then it takes a little more time to remember when to use them. I'd check out one of those Myspace.com HTML generators, and look at how they use the tags.
