I am looking for a to run a forum but I don't know what to do I looked on a SMF site http://www.simplemachines.org/ but don't know what to do. I want a forum like this one we are using and want to know where I can get one. I know I need a server to host it but after that what else do I do after that. I want to make it for my hobby: photography and make it an invite only and let the members have a profile and make it so they can post there photos that are hosted elsewhere to save on bandwidth.

I wasn't sure if you meant all forum Admins or just the ones here so I will chime in:

VBulletin is very popular but you might also want to check out phpBB3.

Generally to start a forum you need web space (from a web host), a database (quite often mySQL), and an installation package such as VBulletin or phpBB3.

The installation instructions included with both of these forum packages a very thorough and will walk you through the installation step-by-step.

Good Luck.

If you can afford an investment go with vbulletin or else phpbb3 is a great opensource forum solution. But bear in mind, building a forum which is successful is very hard work, requires a lot of patience and dedication and time, i think the admin of Computer Juice has done a great job to get Computer Juice this far.

I'm looking for a solution to be successful because Its only going to be a part of a websit I'm planning. Sides I'm making it by invite only by either current member and moderator.
