Front-page is a bit more for beginners, Dreamweaver is a much more advanced and powerful tool.

But Dreamweaver is very expensive.

You can get trials of Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression Web (the new MS Designer), i prefer Expression, but i'm a .net developer so it suits me more. More often than not neither will be needed by a home user, if you need a designer for non-commercial use try Serif Desktop Internet Design Suite, it about 10% of the price.

There is also HomeSite, which is adobe offering for home users. Again trials are available for download.

I only use the designer for the first few templates and then i just use the HTML source, rather than wysiwg design.

how does being a .net developer from any other developer. i know from experience dreamweaver is amazing. it's good for beginners all the way to building advanced sites. Does anybody have any links for a free trial (not dreamweaver because this is what i already use)?

I use Visual Studio every day, and the interface is very similar, plus (like dreamweaver) i can use the asp web controls, instead of the html form controls. so when i import into studio its all there for me.

Homesite trial

Expression trial.

I like Expression but most design agencies we work with use Dreamweaver.

Pro's: If you want to do professional web design then "Dreamweaver" is the best when compared to front Page.

Con's: Dreamweaver is really expensive which cannot be afford easily.

If your are thinking from a designers point of view, Dreamweaver is very helpfull. But Developer's point of view, this facilities are not for them.

I personally use Dreamweaver when I'm designing a webpage, but use PHPEdit when I'm writing PHP code for that page. PHPEdit gives you the facility like Visual Studio gives for .net.

There are some other editors, they really cool. Search for Komodo, NuSphere, textpad (it's like note pad, but offer more options), ZendStudio ( very expensive but offers tons of features).

Best of LUCK!!!
