It seems Google is crawling this forum all day everyday but it doesn't seem to be getting into search listings. Any ideas why? Does it take time for Google to update? Dave....

I know that if you do not make an index for a forum a google spider will get lost and give up on crawling a particular website. I know that most of the time crawlers will not go more than 3 links deep. I dont know exactly how it works, but there are a few things you can do, Either submit your site to a major search engine and they will get you listed, which in time will spread to other sites, or you can visit phpbb.com forums and see how to make an index of your forum on there. Or you can just wait and eventually a spider will crawl enought to get you listed.

I'll look into the index bit...

Google is crawling the forum, i can see it crawl all posts from my stats.

But its not showing in their results.

Just seems weird tbh.

The bots turn up pretty much the second there is any activity. I have noticed that it takes as long as 4-5 days for it to filter through to produce a google rank.

Just been reading up on Digital Point.

Can take ages for Google to update regardless of being crawled.

Just realised I changed the directory of the forum when I changed hosts too so all the old Google links are dead, which probably hasn't helped things.

I was looking Google info up for SEO ing my site. You need to add a sitemap and tell google where it is im not a pro on this and have'nt worked out how to do it for mine yet. Their are free apps that do this for you.

A sitemap allows google and all the other search engines to look up all your pages in one place rather than search all the the site for them. Think of it as a map in a large building reception that SE can read.

You create the sitmap file then add it to your site let google know where it is located and google can then be set when to reindex all your pages. Because of the sitemap, nothing will be missed and google will not mind reindexing pages hourly or daily this way.

Type in sitemap in google and have a read. Then type in easy sitemap to search for sitemap apps.

I have listed in the download section a good Site map Generator that I have used, and thought you could use it.

I believe it does help google index all your pages, well it did with my site so give it a go.

Found the problem....... a while ago someone i was discussing SEO with on a forum offered to help out by making me a robots.txt file.

I was just looking into mine to find he basically wrote one that stops all robots indexing my sites, so that would explain Google ignoring me in SERP's. I don't think it was intentional, just one extra character on a line of code stops the bots listing your results so was probably a genuine mistake.

Sorted now tho' so should see some increase in SE traffic soon.
