Right the best way of doing it is to buy some software such as Microsoft FrontPage, or download a free alternative, such as N-Vu.

That way you can build you're site on the software, and upload it to you're domain (which can be from anyway, just shop around for the lowest price) and upload it using their FTP server.

Or if you can't build websites get a script, like a wordpress blog script.

Everything is done out of the box, you just need to customize it and make it your own.

As for hosting as you are new to this and there are a lot of rogue hosting companies out there take a look at 1&1, they are cheap and are one of the biggest hosting companies going.

I don't use them as I have more bespoke requirements but they will do a new startup just fine.

If you want to sell stuff on a site, it throws up a whole LOAD of other problems, for example secure servers, etc. You can set up Paypal to take payments but it doesn't look very professional. If you're serious about it, it might be a good idea to have a pro look at it. Remember, if your site doesn't look slick and polished, people are VERY unlikely to start entering in their credit card details!
