Default How to create a website - guidelines needed!

hello all!

I would like set up a website but I am a bit confused/lost.
I hope you can help me.

Let me tell you first about the subject:
I want to create a website about fishing spots and their feedbacks from people who used them.
The website could look like something like this:
DONT SPAM

So there would be a directory and people could leave feedback about each place (like they do here for restaurants).

I have basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, an understanding of Javascript and Databases but I do not what is the best way to put everything together.

Shall I ask a specialist? Pay a webmaster that gives me back a website key in hand or do you know any softwares that could put everything together? simply enough?

Any ideas welcome.

I 'd rather put a bit of time and less money. but I need to know where I am going.

I hope that my question is clear enough.

thank you

To talk to a database, you'll need to know a programming language as well. PHP is the commonest one. but with web databases you run into problems of security of the database. You might have a lot to do, and a lot to consider at several points.

To build it offline, you'll need to set up your own test server on your PC - I used XAMPP Lite to do that.

With any such project you have to plan everything, and the more you plan in advance, the more likely it is to work. But planning in enough detail to cover everything can be tricky. most people start small and gradually acquire enough background knowledge totackle bigger project.

i'm sure that are probably script soutthere that could do what you want out the box, but none spring to mind just know.

You could simply create a forum or wiki.

Otherwise, you will need to set up a mySQL database and use PHP to store information and navigate/display it.

I think carbon's suggestion of a wiki is better than a forum - your theme isn't really a discussion forum. but there are so many wikis to choose from it's hard to know where to start. That's what made me avoid mentioning them initially.

However, it's appearance on screen may be dictated by the wiki you use, and hard to style the way you want.
