I've been trying to find info on how to set-up my own forum, I have been taking a HGV course recently and have my 2nd test on Wed (wish me luck!) and I have found that there are no specific HGV forums on the web. I'm just trying to find out how difficult, time consuming and costly it is to set-up and run your own forum. I feel that there will be alot of young people thinking about taking an HGV course in the near future, and while I was thinking about it I noticed a lack of available information (aside from HGV training company websites).

So in short, HGV forum for young / veteran drivers, any advise?!

Thankyou!

What HGV? (heavy goods vehicles i am guessing though it doesn't really matter). Creating a new forum is relatively simple. First you need a webhost. Webhosts can be cheap or costly or free however you find one. If you can get a college, free host, or friend to host it for you then more power to you. You could also instal apache web server and start hosting t from your own computer. After that you may or may not want a DNS registered name. Obtaining a name costs about $9 USD a year from go-daddy.com (i believe thats the name of the site) or some other DNS service (yahoo also has dns). after that all you need to do is put a forum software onto your host. Notice that this forum is powered by vBulliten (on the very bottom of page). That is once such forum software that runs php and sql (software on the host). There are tons of secure and some insecure forum softwares and I suggest a php based one for ease to you. After that all you need to do is configure some options and get some members to join and you are on your way (good moderators are also necessary after a while). Good luck ;-)

YaBB forum is simple to set up and doesn't use MySQL, so is usable on many hosts who charge extra for MySQL.
