I have always wondered if one wanted to make his own ISP not broadcasting your web site but provide internet to people and connect directly to the web. I was always curious about how some one would connect to the internet with out paying ans isp but you be the person to provide it. I have no reason to really know cept that it have been driving me crazy for almost a decade now. I figured it would be expencive or such. I mean the concept of threads or rope or yarn as the medafore for the internet connecting computer to computer went out the window soon after the internet was widely used. now we have servers and .................................................. ...

What I am asking is who prevides the internet access to the people previding the internet and/or how do they connect to cyberspace.

The biggest problem is your pipe. Regular broadband has a low upstream. eg my 10MB is 10MB down, 384KB up. The up would be used effectively for clients download. So it would be slow, even for just one "customer".

If you want to be connected to the fat/main pipe, you will need a deep pocket. This is also why is is unpractical to run your own websever and host your website from home/work.

did I come off as rude? because that was uncalled for. I just simply stated what I wanted to know and tried to clarify. could it be my grammar. I have been told that it sucks. I write how I speak and you shouldn't take any offense on what I say or how I say it. If I did offend you I am sorry, if not then please tell me what the hell is up maybe its something I could work on.

To be honest having read your question 3 times now I still can't understand what your on about, and Dave's guess at an answer was as good as mine.

Would you mind rephrasing your question, and then maybe we will be able to help with this :)

Well first I messed up on the title it seems to suggest that I was having problems.
to clarify I am not trying to set up a website neither am trying to broadcast anything from my computer.
My questions refers to "how things work" kind of subject
I know how the internet works but what I don't know is how an ISP like verizion or charter or any large or small tap into the internet.
when the internet first came out (or so I was told) that computers are connected to computers.
and I figured if that was the case still one would not need an ISP.

To make it hypothetical; if I wanted to make my own ISP to provide internet what would I need to do.

sorry for the misunderstanding.

You'd need a giant backbone connection in a convenient place. You'd talk to whoever has that connection, lease it, grab a bunch of equipment and then charge your customers.

It's like asking how you can become a utilities company: technically you could rent out your existing water line, but obviously that's not a very good idea :)
