Hey guys,
i am in the proccess of making an mmorpg. but we need a server. how much bandwidth do you reckon ill need?? i was looking at this: http://webcity.com.au/web-hosting/hosting-pro3.php |

that is a shared server. it will not let you access the server itself nor run anything besides anything on port 80 or ftp. it is shared with other clients.
you need a VPS or a dedicated server. no offense, but if you don't already know this i'm not sure you're cut out to be handling complex network management on a multiplayer game.

Bandwidth these days is irrelevant, hosting companies give it away by the bucket load.
What you want to know are the server specs. Also shared hosting (Sharing a server with 1000;s of other websites) will not be any good for this, you will need at least a VPS (Your own virtual server). My System: The Hybrid Lappy

For customer satisfaction, i would go with a dedicated server. Then only you can decide when theres going to be server maintenance and warn people of oncoming downtime. And Dave is right about bandwidth; they sell it by the bucketloads (Also i think the posts from way back in 06 would be gone if they didnt give that much
)
