Default Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?

Right I have made my website and now need to get it ranked highly in google etc.
Is it about making money online, and how you can get items for free.

However I have no idea what I should do, Iv tried searching for info but it is just companies trying to make me pay for them to do it. I dont want to pay as I cant afford it and with some knowledge I could do it myself anyway.

So any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks.

SEO has acquired a reputation as a bit of a black art, something that only a select few can do, and that myth has been perpetuated by so-called SEO professionals.

If you are confident with HTML, or even if you have a decent web authoring package, I would suggest doing it yourself.

Many small adjustments can make a big difference. The search engines like Google basically want to generate accurate and high quality listings: so the fundamental rule is to create content rich pages that are as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.

If you're HTML savvy, avoid markup like this:

and aim for something a little closer to this:

My point being that you should describe elements as fully as possible within your markup. Similarly, but perhaps slightly off-topic, your markup should be appropriate: avoid using tables for layout, for example. Tables should simply contain tabular data.

If you are using an editor rather than hand-coding your HTML, then take advantage of as many options the software offers you to describe fully the properties of each element on your page.

Additionally, your meta tags (description, keywords) should be relevant, should not mislead, and ideally they will include some of the words visible to your site's visitors.

The risk with employing some SEO consultants (but not all) is that they will basically try to 'trick' the search engines into giving you a higher listing. The problem with this is that while it might work temporarily, the search engine operators like Google are wise to these practises and are fast to change their indexing procedures.

Since Google are pretty much the de facto search engine these days (sorry Yahoo!) take a look at www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ which can provide you with practical advice as to improving your website's search engine visibility.

My bet is that anyone who answers along the lines of, 'yeah, SEO consultants are great, check this one out ... ' are just touting for business. The fact is, ask them how they are going to do it and they won't be forthcoming with answers.

SEO is mple concept but hard to implement.
If you are focus on improve the SERP, then what you need to do is use high density of keyword on your content, and increase the content quantity with high density of keywords.
Besides, dofollow blog (same niche) commenting will help a bit also

If your site is about making money on line, you can save yourself a lot of trouble by giving up right now - it is a very competitive niche (google returns 44 million such places!!!) , with experts at seo pushing their own sites high. If you are not an expert at seo, you will not beat these guys - they have big budgets, funded by their earlier successes, which they can re-invest in seo to keep them where they are in the serps.

Sorry to be so brutal, but if you wish to make money on line, you have to know the facts, and asking for help says you don't know the basics yet. Rule One - don't go for an over-crowded niche with no money behind you and try to take on the big boys! You might as well try to get your own casino advert site high in google, or your own bargain buy cd / dvd / electrical goods / seo site high in google!

I do seo, and would not take on a client in any of the above topic areas, as there is no way I could make a client's site compete with those who have thousands to spend on seo. I have good results when there are only one or two million pages to beat, but taking on 44 million pages - no way.

Submit your site to top search engines, submit it to high authority directories, forums can also help you promote your website, place a comment on other websites or blogs, participate on social networking and bookmark sites.

Wow, a lot of that happened one time posters as well.. except Carbon. And now me.

Basically I'd say just make sure you describe it well and make it look presentable, using a variety of different methods. Sometimes search engines have submittal boxes for you to submit your site to them and describe it a bit more fully.
