I didn't know which board to post this on so i figured i'd go with the hardware board...

I assembled my computer last week and it runs Bioshock beautifully, but Crysis just isn't holding up. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon X2 6400+ (3.2Ghz)
4 Gbs 800 DDR2
Leadtek nVidia PX 8800GT
MN2-SLI Delux Asus Motherboard
Vista Home Premium (64 bit)
Zalman 9700

According to windows my drivers are up to date and my windows experience index is 5.4, the hard drive being the lowest (windows says to the recommended WEI for crysis is 5.0).

My system specs also meet the recommended requirements on the Crysis box. I dont understand why then it can only run well at medium settings, and if i'm overlooking something i'd greatly appreciate it if someone pointed it out to me =D

Sounds normal to me, Crysis is very demanding, I can only run it on low.

Yeah it just a very demanding game, I know of people with Q6600(quad core) and 8800ultra's in sli that have trouble running this game in all its glory

Crysis is just a hog when it comes to performance. So if I were you, just put your settings down a bit and it will run fine. I got a 7600GT that I run it on.

i'm running it at 1280X1024, with high settings on texture quality, water quality, and lighting...everything else at medium. I was just concerned because i have BETTER than the recommended requirements the Crysis box suggests. Would a quadcore AMD processor boost my speed then?

Crysis can make use of a quad, slightly. You won't see enough of a benefit when matched against the price of a whole new cpu. I'd recommend against it. It'll be a long time before games are written in a multi-threaded format.

Have you downloaded the latest patch for the game? It's supposed to optimise performance from the gpu/cpu.

I am surprised with the build (and monitor resolution) you've quoted that you're suffering on fps but have you measured the minimum? If it's 25fps or over then you're fine. The maximum doesn't matter really, its the minimum you need to be worried about.

Try downloading Fraps and run it in the game to see what fps you're getting.

number 1 rule when playing PC game, the max recommended settings is always not enough to play on max. usually you need a lot more.
