Not to sound trite but have you tried Ebay or Craigs list? While I assume you have, sometimes the obvious is overlooked...........

Emulation of these consoles is far beyond the capabilities of any modern computer. They use specialized components, and a modern PC will have difficulties emulating anything even up to last generation.

So the answer is "these don't exist". Buy a console on eBay.

arnt emulators illegal since the use a Pirated BIOS from the consoles themselves? I'm sure those are protected by copy right laws not allowing them to be taken without permission. Plus Emulation takes like, something 10x more powerful than what your trying to emulate.

No, emulators are written from scratch, they don't use anything from the original console.

look up PS2 emulators. the need the BIOS from the PS2 itself. the only real legal way to do it is by a complicated process of extracting from a PS2 and putting it in a emulator. only problem it that you cant use the PS2 anymore. Plus, to play games, wouldn't you need to illegally download them onto your HDD to work with the emulator?

Hmm, I didn't know that. That doesn't seem to be the case with any others, however emulation of newer consoles is pretty tricky anyway.

They do have plenty of legitimate uses - for example, testing homebrew applications (would be great for PSP developers, especially!. But, yes, downloading games is illegal in the US if you don't own the original, and I'm not sure about UK.

Nevertheless, the question is still valid and answerable without getting into that territory. People often treat consoles like little PCs - they sort of are, but their hardware is not even close. Often, other consoles emulate each other a lot better, the PS3 doing PS2 titles via both hardware and software as one example, the PSP doing PS1 titles even though it's not THAT powerful of a console (and the PS1 did a lot: supplementary vector stuff and decompression on the CPU) another.

Emulation legality: Emulation is only legal if you already own the original game. I am not sure but if you already own the game then, only if the game doesnt fit in your computer, i think you are permitted to download the game.

I know for a fact that PS2 emulators (such as PSX) dont come with a BIOS, thus the only way to get it is to download it, which can only be done illegally. Now, if your talking about something like a DOS emulator, those arnt illegal. fact is, weather you own the game or not, if you use an emulator you have to download a BIOS for it, which like i said, is illegal. Emulators like a gameboy emulator has it built in, so im not sure if they are illegal...

There's a high chance that a your computer cannot compare to a ps3 in performance. That would be like trying to play a psp game on a gameboy advance! I have a ps2 emulator myself, and it alone is very buggy.
