Hi, what actually causes lag and lagging out in a game?

Slow CPU or old graphics processor maybe a little bit memory if it takes more memory to run the game then you have present

not enough RAM most of them time. when you run out of it, your computer has to substitute it with your hard drive, which is much slower than using RAM. the lag comes from the hard drive having to seek for the date it needs, opposed to having the data right there in the RAM for fast access. there's a reason why they call it "Random Access Memory" lol. or it can come from when you set the graphical settings so high that your GPU cant process the data fast enough, there for making you computer wait for the processed data thus causing the low frames per second making lag. same for CPU.
