| i just built a new pc and the specs are as follows: 3GHz 4mb cache intel dual core processor 2 gb DDR II SDRAM ATI radeon hd 2600xt 512mb graphics card 500gb hard drive vista ulitimate x64 basically my problem is that some games are really laggy even if i put all the settings to lowest. ut3 runs perfectly on all the highest settings and the graphics are amazing. but hellgate london and crysis (both of which my pc surpasses the recommended system) are still very laggy on the lowest settings. can anyone suggest why it does this, any suggestions would be great because this is a really annoying problem. also i have a second problem that is specific to bioshock. it runs perfect on all the highest settings apart from somethings are just one color like water is just one single blue and all enemys are just one single dark grey. this makes it very hard to play but im not sure if this is the same problem as the one above. anyway suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated too. Thnx :) |

| As you haven't quoted your monitors resolution it might be a bit difficult to help as this may have a bearing as the card quoted is mid-range and will struggle above 1280x1024/1440x900. The 512mb ram won't help as this card won't be able to make use of all of it, put simply. But, I think it's more than likely it's because you're running Vista 64bit. This version of the os and games are still not mixing. I honestly believe it's driver related (game dependent). Even the newest drivers, especially AMD's, are not having fun with Vista, especially 64bit.

| Well i installed the new 64bit driver for my graphics card as you suggested and its really helped. My screens resolution is 1680 x 1050 and the maximum resolution that my graphics card can take is 3840 x 2400 so i dont think its that my graphics card cant handle the high resolution. I agree i think it is a driver and 64bit problem, while the new driver has sorted out most things, some games are still slightly laggy sometimes which is annoying when i know my pc should be able to cope with it :P. Anyway maybe as 64bit becomes more mainstream this will no longer be a problem. thnx for you help, the driver suggestion really speeded things up :) |
