Currently, I have a Game Boy Advance and a Tapwave Zodiac handheld that runs Palm OS. I'm thinking of buying a Nintendo DS, but after that I'm not sure about the PSP. I'm not that bothered about the UMD playing facility. Are the games for it really any good?

I don't really feel like carrying around a ton of devices - add in my mobile phone and digital camera and you'll understand why.

So.... those of you with PSPs, how often do you play games on them? Are the games 'long train journey' type things, or are there pick up and play games that would be OK for a short bus ride every day?

I've got a PSP and i love it, graphics are stunning and it really serves its purpose as being a portable games machine.

I'm one of these people who use single machines for one purpose, for example in my office i have a TV, PC and PSP.

TV for TV
PC for Internet
PSP for games

That way if something pops on TV that i want to watch i put the PSP down and turn the volume up... mean while i can still check all my emails etc on the PC.

Personally I don't like hand held's, I reckon my thumbs are to big for the buttons! I prefer the good old PS2 controller myself. All though I wouldn't ruler out hand held's all together, they can be handy to play on the bus or something.

Thanks for your responses - Dave Hybrid - that has put my mind at ease - some of the games look really good on the box, some of them, the graphics don't look that hot, so I've been concerned it would be a let down to actually play on.

Jade - I'm not usually a handheld fan either, but I'm doing a lot of travelling these days, and I need something to occupy my time!

Best advice is try one before you buy one.

No handheld can manage better graphics than the PSP it's miles ahead.

I would try one, but the shops round here are full of disgusting, sticky fingered, nose-picking kids. I wouldn't handle a demo unit even if I could be wearing a hazmat suit and soaked it in bleach first :-p

(OK, slight exaggeration, but several weeks ago someone sneezed a huge, disgusting bogey over a Nintendo DS - I was in that shop today, I had a look, the DS *still* hasn't been cleaned).

I think I'll just take a chance and buy one - I can always flog it to a friend with more money than sense if I don't like in ;)

Goto a Sony store, there better than usual high street shops.

Have Sony sorted the PSPs with dead pixels yet that was a huge problem with the first batch.

The PSP is definitely worth it. You can play all your music, games, videos and more on it. The web browser is great to. I just put in my order for an import from Japan. I am importing some portable island resort game.

With the PSP you can play games in any language.
