Default Unreal Tournament (1st one - 2003) on Geforce 8800GTS

Hi all,

i've just been given Unreal tournament from a friend to install on my pc, however im having some problems with it.

When i load up the game the intro screen skips quite fast - its going too fast and missing out frames.

this is also happening when im trying to the play the game, ill take a step or two forward and it moves me a lot more and misses out the frames it should be displaying smoothly.

I'm using the Geforce 8800GTS 320mb gfx card, 2gb RAM, dual core processer...never had a problem before with games such as medal of honour (new one), nfs (new one), bioshock....everything has been fine.

i've changed a few things with the nvidia settings panel and when i ran the game again the game was really slow moving...audio was fine.

anyone got any clues or solutions???

First things first, UT2k3 was not the first Unreal Tournament game, Unreal Tournament was, and came into being in 1999.

Down to business. I have observed this problem before, primarily with older games (pre 2000, such as Carmageddon and Total Annihilation) though it's possible that later games would experience the same issue, if they weren't developed on a Dual-Core machine.
Near as I've ever been able to ascertain, it's a CPU problem. The rate at which the cores pass information between each other and the rest of the computer is far faster than it used to be, causing the 'timing errors' you've observed. If you are using an AMD dual-core, there's a fix for it, that I'm certain of. If you're using an Intel dual-core processor, there's nothing I can do to help. Except suggest buying an AMD processor. They're better.

Using the hotfix fixed it for me, I'm not certain how, but I tend not to look gift-horses in the mouth. Mostly because horses invariably have REALLY bad halitosis.

Hope this helps!
