Vice city not working

hey im trying to install vice city on my pc but when i try run it it says cannot find 600x400 mode ??
help i want to game

vista 32 bit
i cant even install red alert 2 it says dirext x action not supported or something and takes me to a screen with the logo and some empty buttons

These are quite old games,have you tried running them in compatibility mode for XP?
Right click/Properties/Compatibility.

It isn't a 'backup' copy of vc, is it? And have you tried running it on a different PC? What's the exact error message that comes up?
