I am looking for a game to buy that is free from monthly payments. Anyone know any besides Battlefield 2142?

There are so many games , like you can buy CS source its just one time payment only and you can play on there server or can set up your own server . The game is a really good buy if you are considering one time buying ,also in the combo pack you get half life 2 with it .

Like "Its.sid" said there loads!, but you do have to find the best, there is the Half-life 2 package which comes with CSS (Counter-Strike Source) you can also pick up BattleField 2 Special edition really cheap that comes with Special Forces Expansion. It Depends what type of game are you looking for?
