What do you think of the Wii?

I was very disappointed to hear the cost - £170 - I was expecting it to be a lot cheaper. I still want one - I love the look of the controller, and there are some very cool sounding games in the works.

Will you be getting one? Have you seen any good deals anywhere, or is £170 just the standard price?

Ok this might sound slightly dumb, but what does Wii mean? Is it something to do with wireless or connecting?
Can someone explain or is it just the name of the console?

£170 is cheaper than the PS3, and the Xbox 360 - BUT it is more than the price other countries are paying if you did a direct currency exchange, and its not really that much cheaper than a core Xbox 360 is now. Its also more than most people were expecting since they were saying it would be an affordable console.

As for what 'Wii' means, this is what Nintendo said on the day they announced that it was going to be called Wii:

Quote:
Introducing … Wii.

As in “we.”

While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

It's an odd name the Wii is cheaper as it's got less performance hardware than the other consoles. I see it as more of a fun console with a remote you can use as a light saber or fishing rod in games. It monitors your movements so you look like an insane person attacking the TV or imaginary people to onlookers. Imagine the postman is at your lounge window and sees you holding a white remote in your hand casting your bate out at the TV and wrestling with it to land a big Pike.

I love the fact that the Wii is cheaper. I also like the controller and how you can still use an old style controller if you wish.

The games seem to have great graphics, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
