There's really no way you can compare these sort of things. The 360's Xenon is a PowerPC architecture, which alone puts it very far from any Intel/AMD chip on the market. Closest thing you could compare it to is a triple-core like Phenom.'

The Cell is even crazier.

Just comparing the theoretical max performance, the 360 is 115.2 gflops, where the PS3 is 2 tflops - however, this isn't really a useful comparison for reasons already stated.

In gaming, the more traditional 360 architecture has performed better. It's a matter of learning to code to utilize the Cells on the PS3, I suspect.

there must be some sort of benchmark out there.

Well, they're completely different architectures, there's no benchmark utilities for the systems (for obvious reasons)... your best bet is to read reviews on how the two systems compared playing the same game, but of course they're going to be two separate versions so it'll depend more on the competency of the developer than the system itself.

research project. i wish someone could just use 3dmark06 on them both. i mean, everyone know they can compare GPU's easily, why not CPU? ok, how about this, can someone give me a kind of list of which is the most powerful to the least power. with the PS3 , 360 and http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CP-218-IN
