Default Wii system memory?

The Wii only has 512 MB of flash memory.
WTF?!?
How can we live like this?
With the release of Guitar Hero III around the corner, how do we expect to manage with this type of memory? And 2GB SD cards ain't cuttin' it. How will we manage?

The Wii needs more system memory, or at least sell an external hard drive.

Why did you buy it if you dont like its specs?
The Wii relies on its games and its (sort of) original controllers, not horsepower.

Default Wii system memory?

i have a wii and the 512mb havn't nearly come to an end. on the other hand i've only downloaded one virtual console (mario kart 64). i use(d) (i say used as i accidently deleted the partition of the card when reformatting my pc for the first time, c'est la viea had to learn somehow) a 2gb sd card (got from amazon for about £12 icl. p&p), but u can't save vc on it. however you could always just take the console with you as its so small.
i suppose the memory will only become an issue if you have downloaded LOTS of vc onto your wii, or they continually release hundreds of updates for the wii's software.
do you have lots of vc's danieltobey?
(guitar hero 3 looks sweet)

No, I don't have any VCs, but the reason I brought up GH3 is because people are going to want to buy/download songs, and they're gonna cost the Wii some big MBs, because of multi-track recording.

I'm sure GH3 won't be the only game in the future to offer downloadable content.

Well Nintendo have created the system with a small amount of internal memory, and I'm sure Nintendo will supply a solution if there is downloadable content that takes up a lot of memory. If there is a lack of memory and quite a lot of people need more cos of downloadable content, then Nintendo or a 3rd party will probably release an external hard drive, or allow pen drives to be used via software update. Until then you will just have to cope.

Yeah, an external hard drive would help....

yeah i'd agree now, having an external memory thingy would come in use, when people need more, but then ninty may lose some money because people would download something then take it somewhere else to play, which is all good for us. what i mean is take VC's for instance i can download them, but then can't play them on my friends wii, because it isn't on a disk. so they may be holding off a while, until people are really needing more memory. maybe the Sd cards could store extra memory (e.g. the songs for GH3) instead of using USB's or other devices. o well.

Actually you are wrong. I only found out recently(on another discussion about wii external hard drives) that the Virtual Console games link to your Wii's ID number. You can download the same file that you have purchased again from the Wii download shop as many times as you want, BUT you can only play the virtual console game on the Wii that you bought it on. So no playing VC games with your friends on their console, or selling VC games on a memory card over Ebay.

Wow, that's pretty neat. So in case you accidentally deleted your VC while freeing up what little memory you have, you can re-download it.

Another reason for an external HD is extras. If you've ever played an XBox 360, you'll know that people use the internal HD for many things, such as:
Videos
Games
Music
Demos
etc.

Also, online play may be fun in the future. This may possibly all come out with the next version of the Wii (the wii-wii?) or in a future system upgrade.
