Why don't you try it? I don't know about HL2, but actually some games do, such as Call of Duty, but ONLY online though, you still need to put in in for single player.

Well if u have a steam account , ie that you have bought and registered with steam . You can download the game from steam . You wont need any cd then .As all the games you have registered with are downloadable .
