i am close to buying my new pc and i would like the computer to be able to play games of high standard, ive already done that but i am given the choice of xp or vista. Will vista make games slow or incapable of playing that were designed before vista arrived? Thanks

XP's operation is alot faster but is being abbandoned by microsoft next year. vista on the other hand is slower but is compatable with directx 10 and works with vista only games like halo 2 and shadorun.

alough it is kind of hard you could dual boot xp and vista so in other words you could use xp for general use and vista for directx 10 gaming etc.

all the games prior to vista that i have installed on my vista pc run fine so i dont think there is a compatability issue. my vista pc works just as fast as my old xp pc so i dont think operation is fast. maybe vistas new style could make things slower on some machines because it uses more memory but its fine on mine. if it is runing slowly the theme can be change to vista basic and other less memory consuming styles. so i would go for vista because of dx10 and vista specific games.
