Post 20 pin psu to 24 pin motherboard

I need to know if a 20 pin psu will work on a 24 pin motherboard, without an adapter. I have seen photos saying that it works simply by not using the first 4 or last 4, whichever it is.

Like this:http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/image/11254/

Does anyone really know if it works? dont want to destroy the mobo. :)

Thanks

Default 20 pin psu to 24 pin motherboard

It should work fine, the connector can only go on one way so it won't damage it.

Bottom line: It might. You certainly won't damage the mobo if it doesn't.

If it was me, i'd be purchasing a 20-24 pin adaptor lead. They only cost a little.

yeah it works iv done that before a 20 pin psu plugged into a asus p5vd1-x 24 pin just make sure you put it right on the end and the connections match up.

How would you know which end to put it at? Trial and error?

if you did trial and error that would mean forcing it in and breaking it simply match it up put the squares in the squares and the rounded ones in the rounded ones.

The connector is keyed, so that there is only one way to insert it into the connector slot.
