For all of you Portal fans out there, my brother stumbled upon a website where some guy used $30 to create a replica Aperture Science Laboratories computer case, mouse, and keyboard.

http://www.modshop.net/users/willson...issue-computer

At the bottom of the main article, there's a link to a forum where the guy posted pictures of the progress he was making on the creation of the case. Don't quote me on this, but I think there are further details on exactly what he did to create the exact modifications necessary to replicate the case.

This thing is a work of art. Hence I felt it might be worth sharing with you guys. Maybe you could take a page out of his book, and try it for yourselves. If I get the chance, I certainly would love to do so as well.

Feel free to share thoughts on how else it could be done, or just your overall opinion. Enjoy :)

Speaking of orange box case mods..

y'know...i was actually going to post that had you not posted it first hahahah. i showed that link i posted before to a friend of mine, and he said quote "I see your Aperture Science case and raise you...<insert link here>" and linked me straight to the TF2 case.

i thought the missile launcher power supply idea was beautiful and very crafty. so was the mobo inside of the ammo canister. and overall, their design was nearly flawless.

this is exactly the reason why the orange box should've been the #1 selling set of games ever. not just because they're incredibly fun games, but because of stuff like this.

that is awesome indeed. and i wish i had the machining skills that he had. and a shop where i could work. because i would LOVE to waste my time just sitting there and building amazing custom machines all day long. perhaps i've found my calling...maybe next semester i should start taking some shop classes and learn how to fashion things out of metal like that guy.

that would rock some serious ass.

I think they worked out it would cost about $40,000 dollars if you got someone to machine it for you with all the tools he had access to.

only one problem. it's appealing to a fairly limited market. you're really going to only see a precious few people that are serious enough about their computer that they would turn to a professional case builder. given, there are a lot of people despite that. but it's still pretty limited considering the large user base that knows next to nothing about computers, and don't care about how it looks.

I don't think anyone intended it to be made commercially. Just showing how much $$$$ equipment the builder had access to.
