Yep!

I have also done similar when the PSU in a server had too few wires, stick another one in on top of it and jumper them together

i have my PSU outside my case ( my old one failed, too lazy to remove and install new one ). It is just hooked up with cables and sitting on my desk. Nice thing about it is that the fans won't rattle my cage :P Bad part is that my cables are a mess as you just see a swarm of red/yellow/black.

Just make sure you don't got touching it when it is on

I'm surprised the wires were long enough....

My PSU is only an inch away from my tower and is sitting on a few empty CD spindles. The wires are just long enough.
