Default Ideal PSU and case to choose

Hey guys, I'm on my way to buy new components and change my old PC. I will be buying an intel E8400 3.0Ghz core2duo cpu, Corsair 2Gb 1033Mhz ram,Asus P5KC motherboard, 320GB hitachi sata-ll hard drive, pioneer 20x dvd-writer, creative xtreme music sound card and nvidia 9800GTX 512MB VGA card.

What I need now is a suitable tower and PSU. Can you help me please? (if it helps my tower will be situated under my desk and I have no airconditioning). Thanks

Yes, the PSU linked is good. Anything from Corsair will run fine, even the 450W model, it's up to you how much headroom you want for extra power and if you want modularity or not.

I'm not sure of the prices where you live but you may be better suited to a 8800GTS 512 (nearly identical to the 9800GTX) or a 4850 (much higher performance). Hitachi has a lot of failures and the WD 640GB is very fast and has very low failure rate. The rest looks good.

I see you have the antec 900 as a case. I've read a couple of reviews on it. Would you recommend it?

I have one and would highly recommend it. i love my antec900. I'm running an Nvidia 790I ultra, q9450 chipset and two 9800gx2's and everything runs quite cool with the 4 factory installed fans the 900 comes with. There is also slots to add two more fans which i bought for $6.00 ea but haven't installed yet lol. There is plenty of room for cable and such as well as factory installed tiedowns for cable management. The blue lights and the clear sidecase leave me unmoved but if you like such things it looks neat as well.

I found the side panels easy to take on and off and the components all installed easily. While i am sure there are other cases that are just as good as the antec900, I have not used them so i can't speak for them. If i were to build another computer tomorrow I would buy another antec 900 for it.

I would, but hesitantly. It lacks a lot of good features like a motherboard tray and toolless HD installation, and I think the P180/P182 would have been much better cases for me if I was buying now. They look clean and elegant and the LEDs just sort of get old after a while on the 900.

Start a new thread of your own m8y, otherwise it will get confusing.
