Hey guys,

I just turned on my computer and the background noise from the case is now exceedingly loud - sort of like a very noisy buzzing/vibrating. I guess it could be the fan? What's the deal here?!

Thanks :)

Could just be a cable snagging a fan. Better open up and see?

Hard Disks also make a dreadful noise just before catastrophic failure!

Maybe the fan on the power supply, check the fan on the back of your case to see if the noise is coming from there(thats assuming your PSU has a fan)

Also a loose fan on the processor or the case will make a noise, so try tightening any screws you find. You will have at least 3 fans:

Case fan
Power supply fan
CPU cooler fan

Also possibly

Graphics card fan
Second or third case fan

Once you open up it will be easy to spot where the noise is coming from.

It seems to have stopped now, it just did it for 5-10 mins. Should I still be worried?

I think you should still look inside if you can. Usually you just undo a couple of screws at the back and slide a side panel off but they are all different. When you replace it make sure that the metal tabs lock onto the appropriate bit of the chassis. Some just have a lever to unlock the side others have a plastic cover.
