And thanks for the advice 4D, but that was the second thing I checked. I've 'fixed' far too many issues with the various computers around my house by wiggling some connection or other, or simply, as you say, 'turning it off and on again'. It is, invariably, one of my first methods of fixing computers.
They are permitted.. except they should probably be in the Off-Topic forum..

And you're right! it really is..

You think you've got something really terrible wrong, spend all night fiddling. Give up turn off, and go to sleep.

Next day you turn it on and it works...

It must be The God of Technology exerting his power, hes nocturnal you see.

That God of Technology has some odd habits. Please tell me I'm not the only person here twisted enough to spot this...

I resent that! I know mac users have hardware problems (almost) as regularly as dos or linux users! The advantage being, if something goes wrong with a windows or linux machine, we can swap out parts until something works! Can mac users do the same? Well can they?!

That's actually a geniune question. I don't know...

Pretty much everything on a mac (or at least the desktop mac pro) can be replaced by the user.

Macbook users can do batteries, memory and hard drives but it is RECOMMENDED that they take it to a shop for anything else - otherwise it voids the warranty.

The imacs where everything is built into the one screen I believe are the most difficult.

But, like I said, I believe in the mac pro - especially now they use intel core 2 duos instead of the power PC processors, everything is pretty much user replaceable - does have a 2 grand starting price tag though! (This is why i don't have a mac pro).

Then I stand corrected and suitably chastised. However, there's still no excuse for looking like a 1970s idea of what 'The Future' looks like. Seriously? All that whiter-than-white plastic? What're you trying to prove/hide?

Now I'm just desperately searching for reasons macs are inferior...

You do know that the Mac Pro is metal don't you? (The super desktop one). And comes with 2 x Quad cores as standard and can have up to 32GB RAM?
