Hello guys I wanna know if I would need to replace my PSU if I'm going to get a new GPU.

    Current Build:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
    - 2GB DDR2 RAM
    - Generic 500W PSU
    - PALIT 9400GT 1GB DDR2
    - 320GB HDD

I think that's around 250watts? Correct me if I'm wrong though.
I just used this eXtreme PSU Estimator

And I was thinking of buying a Sapphire 7750

And when I estimated it, it went down to around 240 watts. Is that weird or? :|
So question is, do I need to change my PSU when I buy a new GPU? I am on a tight budget.

Wow still no reply in 3 of my threads. I guess this is a dead forum. Ugh.

I would suggest you HD 6570. It's better than the GT240 and consumes less power too.

Would it perform better than the 7750?
    And what about it's price?

Sorry for the late response - activity in the forum is a community effort, no one man can solve that problem.

However, if it's a generic PSU you should get a new one regardless of whatever wattage it says.

I've written extensively about this before, and I'm sure you can find my rants if you search for PSU + generic or something, and I hope to have a hardware guide published soon to answer many similar queries.

In short, if you spend £50-60 on a good PSU now, it'll not only last through future upgrades, but also not blow up and take out £300 of other components with it, necessitating a £360 'upgrade' just to get back to the system you had!
