Wattage is a completely useless metric and the OCZ likely has the same combined max rating as the Silencer. The PC P&C is way more than enough for a 4890 system.

Yeah i suppose, i'm slightly confused though.

Quote:
- 24-pin, 8-pin, 4-pin M/B Connectors
- 2 PCI-E and 15 Drive Connectors
is the 8 pin a PCI-E? Because the 4890 xxx needs an 8pin and a 6 pin. Hence why i am now looking at this:

Sorry, you're right, they're both 6 pin, but you can either use an adapter or buy the 550VX which is 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin. I included the Silencer more to be fair to PC P&C, but they don't seem to have a lot of offerings on your site that are reasonable price (only the 750W+ variants).

The ModXStreams are the worst of OCZ's lineup and failed HOCP's PSU review here. They are often sold very cheaply on NewEgg etc for a reason. OCZ as a brand tends to make at best passable power supplies: they're not the kind that will blow up on you but they're not worth the money you pay for them.

If it is not Corsair/PC P&C/Seasonic/Antec Earthwatts than it's not worth buying, end of story. It's not worth buying some mediocre unit when cheap, high quality PSUs exist all over.

Good thing you're here to alert us to the horrors of using an adapter.

Thanks people. I am probably going to get the Corsair, and stay clear of that OCZ, for the simple reason that in that review it had a big X and a "FAIL" at the bottom.

No, but on a serious note, i am definatly looking at the Corsair 550W.. I will keep looking for a day or two, and consult back here if any help is needed. Thanks a bunch people, and a big thanks too Carbon. :D

No problem. You might check some other UK sites to see if there's any cheaper, too, like some of the newer Silencers that have 6 & 6+2 pin, but the Corsair is probably your best move.
