my psu has just calved

it says on the side it is 375 watt
i have just found a spare psu in the shed which says 250 watt.

does it matter about the wattage or can i stick any old psu in. I only use it for the accounts.

all help appreciated

Providing it has the necessary connections and it can power the installed components then yes.

What is the rest of your spec?

I'd be rather careful trying this. You probably* won't break anything should you install it but I gather the pc was a prebuild. Meaning the psu is generic, which in turn means the builder has installed the absolute minimum wattage psu to make the machine run in the first place.

You've two choices basically; install the new psu and switch on or purchase a new psu.

just ordered a 400 watt psu. do you think this should work? i don't want to blow anything!

Honest answer is I don't know.

Because I don't know the rest of the spec.

It probably will as it's a higher wattage psu but that isn't a very good answer to be frank.

You could always use a higher power psu, add a couple more devices, eg fans, and power up, if it works normally, remove a device... repeat until you find a problem, then switch off and replace the last thing you took off.

yes!!!!! the more wattage the better your not going to use a 400 watt psu for a very power hungry system you might overload it and break it stay with 375

i have installed the 400 watt already and the system seems to be going alot better.
