Hi everyone,

I have finished putting together a media computer build that I hope is as cool and quiet as possible:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA785GPM-UD2H
CPU: Athlon II x2 240
HDD: 1.5TB WD Eco Green, partitioned for OS
OS: Windows 7 using MCE
PSU: Corsair 450VX
CPU Cooler (only if needed): Scythe Orochi
TV Tuner Card: Black Gold BGT3595 (when release next month)
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair DDR800
Optical Drive: LG BluRAy Player

All I have left to do is choose a case. I like the idea of the Remote Fusion Remote Max for its good reviews for low noise but have heard that the Silverstone SST-LC16M is an even better case - though quite expensive!

Can anyone vouch for either of these cases or suggest a better alternative?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

I recently bought the Antec Three Hundred and it is quite impressive. It has plenty of room and has fantastic cooling abilities. Lots of vents and mounts for fans. I love it.

It was pretty cheap too!

I actually have the Silverstone SST-LC16M. It is a strong and sturdy case and therefore heavy and is brushed black aluminium. It looks very fancy but is easily scratched and has a functional control panel.

Under Vista 64bit the buttons do not work but the remote and display do, you can make the display show the weather or the time and date as there are a fair few options to play with, you can also use the remote as a mouse however, it is not very good as the mouse clicks are buttons and is a pain to use.

I am unsure as to whether it is the fans but the case makes a fair bit of noise, there are 2 92mm (I think) at the rear of the case and I have installed 2 92mm fans at the front.

Finally the 8800GTX was unable to fit in the case as it was obstructed by the DVD bay just by 1mm, I know you are using an IGP just notice for the future.

Overall though it is a good case and well worth the price.

What? The Three Hundred for a HTPC? That's a pretty mediocre case for a gaming PC, and I wouldn't put one in my living room. Bad case for a high-performance system, completely crazy choice for a HTPC.

The P183 would be nice, I guess, but it's a lot to pay and it's still huge, way more than you need. It has the benefit of looking pretty refrigerator-y and fitting in better than most cases though, as well as its quietness, but a HTPC build shouldn't be that noisy in the first place.

I would just go to NewEgg (even if you're in the UK, since it's simply got a better interface than any UK site), look at reviews, find something in a form factor you like and will fit wherever you plan to put the thing.

There's a fairly detailed review on the Silverstone SST-LC16M here it seems to get a high rating.
