Hi All,
I just wanted people's opinion on running my PC with the case open. The thing is that my cpu got ruined by a combination of a heatsink filled with dust and the heat within the case. I have replaced the cpu but now I run the PC with the side panel open and a normal desk fan ( around the same size as the PC case) blowing air on it. The temperature readings have dropped greatly. So basically I wanted to know whether there is any possible damage that can be caused by leaving the case open while in use? Thanks, Kwasi |

Agree with Krill.
You won't have any airflow route though so the flow of air won't be optimised over particular components. But considering how much air a desktop fan shifts I don't consider that a problem. Keep any pets away from it though, cat's (in my experience) tend to like finding nice warm places to settle. ![]() You'll see a lot of dust collecting though, unless that bloody great propellor of a fan doesn't just blow it all away.

I agree with the previous comments, i run an old pc as a test rig with no case just the chassis, what I find is fly's and other insects in the components. Not a problem for me as I am constantly changing bits to test them. You would maybe better getting a decent case and heatsink.
