Tried to search this catagory and mobo catagory and no results. When looking at psu's they mostly say sli ready, few say crossfire ready. Is there a differance,I mean can you get an sli ready psu to work on a crossfire board?
I'm purchasing an asus p5kc board and need to know in order to purchase a psu.

The certification just means that Nvidia or AMD have tested a particular psu on a dual-gpu rig to see if it works. Basically that's it. But just because a psu is SLI or Crossfire certified it doesn't mean a 600w psu that has the cert will be able to run 2 8800Ultra's (as an example). Confusing isn't it. The rest of your build comes into it as well as your hdd's, cpu, mobo, opticals etc all require juice from the psu. Some more than others.

If they haven't tested a psu you're looking at it doesn't mean it won't supply enough watts and amps to run a dual-gpu setup But you'll need to compare the card's needs to the psu you're thinking of purchasing.

Bottom line is: Do your homework. Pick the card's first, check the required power and then go after your psu.

The P5 you mentioned is only Crossfire compatible, you can install 2 Nvidia cards but only for dual monitor gaming.

Thanks so I will look at the cards first before I pick a psu.I guess what I'm trying to ask is,"When it says sli/crossfire ready",does that mean A.it has enough power to sustain dual cards? B.is there a certain type of connector that only fits sli and not the crossfire? or C.Is there an extra cable from the psu to the board to power a secound video card?
I'm going with a single card set up for now, but my board is crossfire ready.Trying to pick a psu that will allow me to run a dual set-up later. My buddy has a pc p&c 510 sli turbo cool he said he would sell me.I like the ocz modstream but didn't know if it would be able to support two video cards.
