Hello all i have a 300W stock power supply. I cant really afford buying a new big power supply. Plus my pc needs a weird ATX/BTX power supply. i have a gateway gt5252. i was just wondering if there are any decent vid cards for basic gaming that work with a 300 watt power supply. preferably PCI Express x16. im just tired of this crappy integrated vid card that is stealin some of my ram. thanks alot!

You'd probably get away with a 8600GT. But it's difficult to be sure because it's dependent on the rest of your build as, obviously, every other component will also be drawing wattage from the power supply.

I run a Pallit 8600GT 256MB DDR3 in a stock Dell 305W, PSU's with dell they tend to quote a realistic wattage figure not a peak. I expect a similar thing is done with Gateway. I've had no problems with it at all power wise, the ATi 2600 series cards have less energy consumption.

I installed a micro-ATX power supply into that proprietary case. They use the same thing as Dell, some weird BTX hybrid. I was able to mount it with one or two screws missing but it was extremely secure. You could perhaps get a 450+ watt micro-atx, dunno if they make them with that high of wattage though.
