I am building my own computer for the first time. I was wondering were there certain brands I need to stay away from ...and what brands have the best standards of excellence. What would you recommend. Thanks!

You're in the US, so stay away from NewEgg's "Rosewill" stuff, at least as far as PSUs. They're the "Western Family" of parts..often low-quality generics.

Really, it's not so much the brand as it is the part. And if it's the brand, it's more "this one is really good!" than "this one is really bad!".

some brands are better than others at certain parts. no brand is "bad" really. its just what they are good at and what they are bad at that matters. and even then, a brand may have a perfect part, such as a motherboard, but have another model that down right sux. it takes research.

Cheese puff is right, i believe there is no single brand that will deliver 100% satisfaction in all aspects of hardware.

Some brands have poorly designed drivers. I have had trouble with installing drivers for Canon scanners, and even HP don't seem to understand how to get some of their printers to work with Vista, even though the answer is out there on the web!!!
