Default Would you like a computer that the case...

...was not block shaped? Like a sphere, or a face, maybe a skull. Would you buy a computer from someone/company making computers in these types of cases. Would you just buy the case? They would be mini ATX form factor. So all parts would fit. Just in a different way.

Its a personal taste, but most cases are shaped to fit the motherboard and other parts that goes inside.

Sony made one that is in a circle like shape. And Apple has some out of the ordinary ones.

It would have limited appeal. It would stop being part of the furniture and have to be displayed on its own for it to serve it's point.

Shapes are also limted by the hardware inside, Motherboards and PSU's being the biggest problem, so a sphere shape design would be larger than you'd like.

However there are some people who will buy them, but mainly for the novelty of it, it's not practical.

Personally i prefer standard tower cases, a nice design is good but it has to be standard format for my liking.

Iam's right, its all about personal preference. You like what you like.

I know a guy who built a case to look like a rather large book, even keeps it on a shelf with a load of others. Mini atx board, onboard gpu. Only uses it for music. But its an awesome piece of building.

Theres a huge modding community out there, who build and change cases to suit what they want.

I doubt you'll find it taking off with manufacturers though because of the limited appeal. Because a certain design will only appeal to a certain amount of builders/buyers.

As long as the interior conforms to the atx spec, and you have areas for your drives (optical and hard disk) then the exterior could be anything the only limit is your skill and imagination.
