My digital camera came with software and a usb cord for attaching it to my computer. I am wanting to by a memory card for the camera, but I am confused about the card reader issue. Will have to buy a separate cord to enable my computer to read the memory card that is inside of my camera, or will the Kodak software that came with the camera do the work for me? I think this is going to turn into an expensive project!

The lead supplied is intended to be used to plug into the camera and read the memory card that is inserted into the camera card slot.

If you buy an additional card it too can be read if plugged into the same card slot, this is assuming you buy the same type of memory card that you already have.

There is no card in the camera at all. There is an empty slot. There is a button there to eject the card. I guess the only memory in the camera is existing on some chip someplace. I have been able to take a few photos with the camera, but its memory fills up quickly. Alternatively, I can take about a four second video with the camera as it is now, without any cards in it.

Ah, OK.

Yes you are correct, you have some small in-built memory, but you need a memory card to use the camera properly.

The manual should tell you what type you need.

I can then source a product for you if you want.

You can generally find an SD card, depending on what type it is, for not a whole lot of money. My camera came with a 16meg card, and that's all I've needed so far, but I'm seriously thinking of getting a new card since they're coming down in price.

The software is there to act as a driver so windows registers your camera as an add on device when you connect the camera to the pc using the usb lead.

You should be then be able to simply go into my computer and see the camera listed. Just treat it then like any other drive.

No you don't need a card reader to get the images from inside the card . the cable supplied will do the same as it also recognizes as a memory device . And card readers are pretty cheap too you can get one for around 3euro something .
