Hi I bought a very cheap, plastic digital camera from ASDA for my 9 year old daughter. It came with a USB lead and software to edit/sort photos and webcam software. I initially just plugged the camera via its USB lead into my PC which has the Windows Vista OS just to see if it installs the drivers from its driver database so I could open it as a removable disc and then just have to drag and drop the pictures onto the desktop, It said it found new hardware and was searching for software for a USB 1.1 device - too no avail. I didnt want to install the camera software on my PC but did try to instal the camera later on, this time on the laptop - which only has Win XP. It said the same as above and even after installing the camera software, I couldn't still access the camera - there was no 'removable disc' shown in 'My computer'. The question is can I download the drivers for a USB 1.1 device from anywhere; is there a link anyway on the internet ??

Thanks

Well on that CD is probably the drivers for the camera, stick the disk in your machine and see what options it gives you, it won't start installing anything from the CD unless you tell it to. There might be an option to "install camera drivers" in which case, try installing that and it should work, otherwise which camera is it? (make and model) then we can have a look on the internet for downloadable drivers for you.

In the add new hardware wizard it should say "insert disk which came with device now and click next" or words to that effect. Pop the disk in, click next and see what happens!

i got it work after a fashion but not as a storage disc that I can access and then just drag and drop pictures onto the desktop, unlike my mobile phone. Using the accompanying software, It opens a sort of web cam thing in a window where everything is 'live', and it allows tyou to take a picture which is stored in another window but you cant move it......or rather I havent yet got to work out how to !!!

Many thanks for your input, nevertheless. much appreciated !
