Sony makes some nice cameras. Try looking into the cyber series, heard some good things about them.

take a peak over at stevesdigicams.com, they have best cameras in certain categories, really good reviews and are unbiased. I would get a Canon PowerShot A640, but its quite bulky but takes AA batteries and cheapy SD memory, about 180 on the net if you shop around.

I looked into the Canon PowerShot one but I was wondering how long the batteries last? I would just think that they wouldn't last that long. Thanks

With that budget in the States you could get a very nice camera! If you have the oportunity, or if you have a friend that is going there, take advantage of the exchange to the dollar. I'm sure you can get something really nice and not so expensive. Good luck!
