The trouble with the Print context menu entry (right click) is that you don't get any control of print quality, perhaps you just get the default quality which is lousy. When selecting Print... of a program menu you can usually adjust all sorts of things that affect image quality.

I guess one solution might be to make the default options as high as possible. If you right click the printer icon, you should get a Properties item. In there you should be able to set default printing properties. Make everything as high as possible. That should cure the problem.

However, using Picasa to print is maybe the best option anyway!
