I use an HP 3650 deskjet prinet which has a standard black cartridge and a standard tri-colour cartridge. I have been using a cheaper colour cartridge to save money but noticed recently that the red is missing and so colour images come out yellow, green or some combination of the two. I have a spare identical printer and it does the same thing with the same colour cartridge. Ah ! you must think its the catridge but when you inspect the head of the cartridge, there are three colour lines visible - red, green and blue. Is it still likely to be the cartridge or something to do with the contacts ? I have also tried cleaning the head etc. but to no avail. thanks.

Try and get hold of another cartridge and put that in, sometimes you can never quite work out what the problem is, if tha solves it, great money well spent, if it doesn't, then you havn't wasted any money because you've still got a spare one for use after you get it fixed.
