Default Print Screen function

Can anyone tell me why the print screen function doesn't work to capture a picture of someone's webcam when on MSN Messenger? It works OK using the normal functions but pressing ALT Prt Scrn (to capture active window) or just Prt Scrn (to capture the whole screen doesn't save anything to the clipboard.

It isn't going to save video images to the clipboard (I think) I do not know if this works for video. Let me know and I will look around for the right program.

Try this:
Print Screen key
(usually beside scroll lock)then open mspaint(start/all programs/accessories/paint) or similar program and select Edit - Paste.
To take a screenshot of only one window instead of entire screen highlight the window you want and hold down Alt when pressing Print Screen.
Then just save the pic in whatever format you like.
Thanks to Krlll for that tutorial.

Yep, tried all that, there is nothing to paste. I don't want to save a video image, just a snapshot in time of the webcam picture.

There seem to be some programmes on the net which claim to do this, trouble is they are all shareware and cost to download which is ok if they work but not if they don't.

You may need a better screen capture utility then the one built into Windows. There are many free ones. Try this.

The print screen does not capture most video, it's the same if you try to capture a certain picture during a movie in whatever movie player you use.

I use screengrab, its free, doesn't come bundled with ad-ware and the like, and is really really user friendly. Captures screenshots of MSN webcam conversations, too.
