Hi and thanks to whoever...I can not use my canon MP160 scanner anymore. The printer is working fine. When I try to scan it says windows camera and scanner wizard can not detect etc etc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. No change.( I have just tried to use my camera and it does not detect that either.) I have run the troubleshooter and it gives a code 19 which I think is a registry key problem. The autorun (3 of) keys are the only ones I could find any info on and they seem to say what they should. I now realise that nothing I plug into a usb auto runs anymore...don't know if that is relevant.I can only operate devices in storage type mode. I have deleted realplayer, I have nero and photoshop on my laptop and have liberally used registry cleaners...hmmmm probably serves me right. I have restored back to the begining of the year and it's not there. hope someone can help me please. Thanks in advance for your time, I think that you all rock, these forums are great, the trouble they have helped me get into...and out of

Uninstall the printer drivers, remove the USB lead to the Printer, then reboot the PC.
Reinstall the drivers, but dont plug in the Printer's USB lead, until you are asked to.

If the above doesn't work ...... as you have dabbled with regcleaners, you may have deleted critical entries in you registry, which may require a repair install.

Thanks for the reply..
I have done the uninstall, switch off reinstall, thing.
No gooda!
Does a repair uses the xp disc (I am running xp) that I loaded my software from...? I think micrososft has a repair console that can be downloaded?
Any help in doing this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

You will need the Microsoft XP installation disk to do a repair.

Just boot up with the XP disk and follow the instructions in this guide.

If you haven't got an XP disk,..... i.e. you have a manufacturer's Recovery disk, you will need to follow the instructions they provide.

If the latter, be aware that it will probably put your PC back to factory settings though and you will lose all your data.
