Default Waste Ink Absorber needs service

The Waste Ink Absorber in my Canon Pixma MP170 is full. I have spoken to Canon who say I should contact a Canon Service Agent. The Service Agent tells me that the required part is no longer available but they will collect my machine, examine it & send me a refurbished identical model for about £65. Not being an idiot, I shall buy a new printer but I'd like to have a go at cleaning the old one myself. Can anyone please tell me, in simple steps & one at a time, how to physically access the old tank? Thank you.

If you have a look in the instruction manual (or search for a PDF online) chances are theres a diagram of where everything is.

Ollie.

I think your probably just best of getting a new printer, as I've had a quick look through google, and it doesn't look like there is anything, and printers don't cost that much anymore anyway, unless you need it to be super quality (proffesional prints) or something else special.

yea, I suppose, and if your willing to take it apart paddy, it's probably in the same little cradle like part where you sit the ink cartridges, so, if you feel like it go delving in there with a screwdriver.

Yea, wear old cloths, gloves, mask, and newspaper over everything in a mile radius. Ok, that's exadurating a little, but just know that printer ink won't come off anything very easily.
