Hi all

Ive been sitting reading reviews this last few weeks as to what gfx card would be best to upgrade to .

I have found some nice middle range cards and low budget ones that would maybe run at this res, but is there anyone knows for sure if a card will run at this screen res at all?

I have a 20' tft and its running most games ok in window mode with my ATI HD2400pro

The cards thats am thinking of buying, are....

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB PCIE

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512MB DDR3 PCI-E

Nvidia Geforce 9500 GT 1GB PCI-E

Sapphire ATi Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E

Anybody think any of these cards are ok for this screen res , i know they will be just fine on a lower size res and would run most games, but i would really like to run my screen in its native res.

Regards

All will be OK, but save the 9600GT all of them aren't very good.

Go for the 4850 or 9800GT.

Thanks for the replies , guys

I failed to say about the budget am running , those cards are just a tad higher than what i would like to spend, but , yeah, if i really want a card to run that res, its only gotta be the higher priced ones.

I think al have to make do with the 9600gt and run it on my 17' screen instead , or maybe a lower setting on 20'

regards

I dunno. Usually the 9800GT is pretty close in price to the 9600GT. LCD lower res is also going to look awful, if you're running a CRT it'll look a lot better at non-native res.

Yep, this is also true running 1280/1024 on a 20'' widescreen will look very big indeed , i do have a 17' crt screen also, but to use that again idk

The 9800GT isnt too much more than the 9600GT , That may just be an even better idea to just wait and buy that instead

Am also in the hunt for a good psu aswell, this was my reason in choosing the 9600GT and with that extra £20 i could put to good use on a better psu a good 450w one or an ok 500w should do the job.

Maybe will go for the 9800GT and just get an ok 500w psu to power it

Thanks again Carbon

For the PSU go for the Corsair 400W It costs a little under £40, but for £20 your not going to get a good PSU.

400w ya sure man ? am also running a Q6600 and that uses 115w ,and 380w min for that 9600GT?

Theres icute PSUs, but there pure lightweight, if 400w is sufficient i could maybe get one of those and maybe that Corsair 400w

400w , i thought would be too low a watt? if not i may just be able to get one of those good 400w

Thanks thingie

It should be, after all, it's not rearly the Wattage that matters (up to a point) the Corsair will be much better than a £20 750W unit for example. It's the Current (Amps) on the +12V rails that matters most.

The 9600GT does not take 380W. A 4870X2 takes 350W.
