| Seen both the above cards by nvidia geforce going for roughly the same price. I'm just wandering which one will be better? Of course the 8500GT is the model down but it has twice as much memory. Or any better cards around £50 that would be better than my current 7600GS? Basic system spec the card will be used for; 550w PSU Soprano case (big enough for pretty much any GPU) PCI express slot 3GB RAM 320GB hdd 17" monitor + 26" HDTV Looking for quick replys if possible as I'm looking to buy one when I get back from work at 9.00pm tonight [so I wont be able to reply] Thanks ![]() |

| VRAM doesn't matter: 8600 is better, but you may be able to find a 8600 GTS or maybe even Radeon 3850 256mb at that price anymore. If you do, go with one of those.

| After looking at the 3850's I just can't justify spending that much on one. I've now seen an ATI 256mb x1900GT within my budget. Would this be better than the 8600GT? |

| basically no although it is a good card the 1900 is an ancient card by todays standards id personally o/c your card and save a bit more money and get a 9800 or 8800 later on but if you have to get a card now that plays dx10 games(if you have vista) then id get the 8600gt but if still have xp and want a new card that only does dx9 is around £50 id go for the Nvidia 7800GTX 256MB DDR3 with which you should be able to play fear or stalker with http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141163

I would second the suggestion to save for at least a 3850. You could grab a x1900GT for cheap too, it's got nearly the same performance as the 8600GTS. I wouldn't spend too much for it though, better to save up a little for the 3850 which offers much better performance.
