Default 2 different graphics cards

HI all,

I'm using a Quadro FX 1400 PCI-e 16x at present, specifically for video editing. It's not much use for anything else.

I was wondering if it was possible to use 2 different cards on a mobo with 2 PCI-e 16x, one the Quadro, the other someting more suited to gaming (not expensive) and switch the vdu between the 2?

look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Tony

no that isnt possible im afraid, both cards will run at the same speed meaning if you had one low spec card and one high spec card the higher one will run at the same level as the lower spec card.

i think it will be best to just get one good card like the 8800gts 640mb, im sure that card will do well in video editing aswell as gaming.

Thanks for the information Spencer2004.
Unfortunately, the video editing programme I use, Avid Express, is very fummy about the cards it will work with. Only those designed for CAD andother intense graphic works will do.

Would it not be possible to disable one in the Control Panel, device manager whilst using the other?

Yes, using some tools it is possible to disable SLI.
Just make sure you set the one you need to master and the other one to slave.
Then just disable SLI using the NVIDIA stuff.
